Field Services
ForeRunner supports all phases of surveying services from the initial project scoping and courthouse research to survey and data analysis, our team assures thorough and accurate survey support. We can use traditional "Total Station" techniques or either of two GPS techniques, depending on the project requirements.
LIDAR
LIDAR is defined as light detection and ranging. Data is gathered by an aircraft flying approximately at 4,400 feet using GPS. The aircraft transmits an infrared light that reflects off the ground and features above ground, depending on the density of the object. LIDAR has the ability to pass through the trees, also depending on the density. Approximately 70,OO0 points per second are collected, which is approximately 2.5 million points per square mile. The horizontal accuracy of the data is less than 1.5 feet and the vertical accuracy are less than 1.0 feet. The difference between LIDAR data and satellite or aerial imagery is that LIDAR is actual data points that have been collected. The area is flown once and then it can be updated by using the as-built data.
There are many advantages of using LIDAR. It can be used for preliminary work such as grading and route layout of proposed pipelines and facilities, to the as-built stage of post construction and tracking of existing facilities and pipelines. It can be used for environmental studies using the hydrological model for water shed and wind turbulence effected by existing ground features. A proposed site that has been graded and the proposed structures can be clip and placed within the LIDAR data to show the environmental impact for the area. The bare earth feature allows us to visually see what the underlying topography is. Maps can be created by using the full feature with contours and placing a grid or section lines on it. Information that is collected in the field will be imported into the data base to keep the file updated. Design can be done at any time when it is sometimes not feasible to do survey in the winter or if the proposed site needs to be relocated there is no need for a resurvey.
The final product of using the LIDAR data decreases the time spent on the project management, preplanning and permitting. There are many applications to this product and we are proficient in the entire above said paragraph. The final product is client specific and based.
