- All of the carpet is 100% recyclable and has a percentage of recycled material in it.
- The Forbo product being installed in the Break rooms and Coffee room floors by Reception is also an “all-natural” product since it is made from a rapidly renewable resource.
- Office has windows all around the building, with the exception of the exterior columns, which allows for more natural lighting to come into the office area. Also, all offices have a “Sidelight feature” which is an opening near the door which allows light to come into the open areas.
- One main feature relates to the lighting in the offices. These are:
- There are no light switches (almost). The lights operate by motion sensors so as someone enters the room/area the lights will come on and when the sensors do not recognize any movement, they will turn off automatically.
- In the open areas where the work stations are located, an indirect lighting system is installed which is a more efficient light alternative.
- The switches which are installed will allow for certain areas to turn off the 2’ x 4’ fluorescent lights and only use the indirect lighting system. This was a request which was received during our earlier design meeting with employee representatives.
- Each workstation and office will have its own task light which is a more efficient light source.
- The furniture is a Steelcase product. 16 years ago Steelcase took an approach to become a leader in manufacturing products which were friendly to the environment and to improve office air quality. The furniture we are purchasing is 76% recyclable and 32% of the material used to manufacture it comes from recyclable material. The production process has focused on reducing product waste which is good for the environment but also for becoming more fiscally responsible. Steelcase has received the GREEGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification which is given to companies who look to using materials which are better for air quality in an office environment.
